CHURCH HISTORY
The Vision
Because of the love of God for all mankind, God spoke to Pastor L. N.
Forbes to come to the Washington, D.C. area to establish a church.
Obeying God, Pastor Forbes contacted Sister Annie Eula Wilder, Evangelist Mamie Brown, and
Mother Edrena Speight to tell them about the vision. On June 22, 1962, the first
meeting was held at the home of Brother Everette and Sister Mamie Ruth Forbes at
1912 3rd Street, N.E., Washington, DC. At that time the church was named,
Faith Temple No. 2 Original Free Will Baptist Church by Brother Ronald Mozingo.
The first message preached by Pastor Forbes was "A Storehouse for God's
Word." In its infancy, services were held in the Forbes and Speight
homes. Doors began to open to have services at other churches: Elder James'
church on South Street in N.E. and Elder McLaurin's church on 11th Street N.E.
Faith Temple No. 2 purchased its first home at 401 New York
Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC. In 1970, after much growth, we moved to 5908 Addison Road in Seat
Pleasant, Maryland. The church continued to grow in number and in spirituality.
The church had increased from one deacon, one
mother, a secretary, a treasurer, one usher and a choir to two usher ministries,
more than 15 deacons, 15 mothers and deaconess, a trustee's ministry of 10 and
6 pastor's stewards. There are 3 Ruling Elders, 8 choirs, more
than 500 members, and a ministerial staff of 16 elders and evangelists declaring
the word of God, including our pastor, Bishop Limmie Nathaniel Forbes.
Presently the church has more than 40 outreach ministries.
